About
Amelia McGovern
Amelia McGovern is a third-year industrial design student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD, BFA expected 2028) focused on footwear, color, materials and finish, hard goods and soft goods. Presenting the future of footwear and material innovation. Last summer, as a Color, Materials and Finish Design Intern at NOBULL in Boston, I designed athletic footwear and streamlined the materials library. Whether presenting new concepts or conducting visual research, I thrive in the collaborative energy of creative teams, blending art, invention, and hands-on curiosity.

Creative approach
As a product designer and lifelong creator, I spend plenty of time immersed in the technical worlds of Rhino and SolidWorks, but I am consistently drawn to the physical making process, with a particular focus on pattern development, color theory, and textile design.
More about me
I grew up in Los Angeles and got an early start designing as a junior interior designer on Bravo TV's Minor Renovations, which sparked a lifelong passion for shaping how spaces and products function. Long before that, I was already inventing, building my own slime-making machine as a kid and even applying for a design patent. That early obsession with experimentation grew during my time at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA), where I worked in film, theater, visual arts, and special effects makeup.
Now, as an industrial design student at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and after designing footwear as a Color, Material, and Finish intern at NOBULL, I'm driven by material innovation, tactile problem-solving, and a love of making. Whether I'm developing soft goods, sketching athletic concepts, or exploring textiles, I aim to design functional, intentional products that tell a story.
Beyond the studio, you'll find me creating content for Brown XO Magazine, designing with the Brown University Fashion Club, or out bouldering as an active member of the RISD Rock Climbing Club. I am also scuba certified. See me below diving in Catalina, CA with the Garibaldi fish!
